SELF TAPE AUDITIONS: Casting directors need to be able to clearly see your face in the shot. It’s always best to use TWO light sources:

A key light (from the front) and a fill light (from the side). You can play around with where you set your lights up to avoid distracting shadows in the back and make sure that your face is evenly lit.

Key light: The key light ring light is the strongest, providing most of the light in the shot. It’s generally placed in front of your subject.

Fill light: This is a softer light, used to fill in shadows on the subject’s face. It should be positioned to the side. The intensity of the fill light is usually around half that of the key light.
